Tribunal Costs – Latest Figures to July 2011

 

By end July, the Tribunal had paid in excess of €33.5m in fees (excluding expenses) to its own lawyers.  In the twelve months from January to December 2010, the Tribunal paid approx. €2.5m to its own lawyers.  

 

Almost €1m was paid in legal fees alone in the period January to July 2011.  Significant payments were paid in the months following the publication of the Tribunal’s final report in March 2011.

 

By July 2011, the following Tribunal lawyers had earned the amounts as set out below:

John Coughlan SC                                €9,285,628

Jacqui O’Brien SC                                 €6,924,601

Stuart Brady Solicitor                           €1,894,476 

 

Several other lawyers engaged by the Moriarty Tribunal have joined the ranks of Ireland’s Tribunal millionaires.  Junior Counsel Maire Moriarty has earned in excess of €2.47m, with colleague Stephen McCullough earning over €1.9m in legal fees from the Tribunal. Legal researcher Darach McNamara BL has earned in excess of €778,000. Two other Counsel engaged by the Moriarty Tribunal shared €565,000 between them.    

 

In addition to its own lawyers’ fees, the Tribunal has (up to July 2011) spent in excess €8,500,000 on its own “Administration Costs”.
